MONMOUTH/OCEAN/MIDDLESEX COUNTIES TRANSIT STUDY

M D. Rocca

Abstract

A 2-year transit study is reported, which brought to a focus an extensive 12-year history of efforts to improve transportation in this region of growing towns and long-distance commuters, the fastest growing region of New Jersey. The study screened and evaluated 40 potential rail and bus alternatives along 8 corridors, and recommended two projects to progress further toward implementation: bus priority treatments; and passenger rail service along a reconstructed freight line. The details are given of the 2-phase process: defining of 40 alternatives and screening down to a short list of about a dozen; and a detailed evaluation of the short list.
